BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND, PAINT NIGHT

WOONSOCKET, R.I.: Back by popular demand, Paint Nights with Instructor Jillian Cinquantini returns on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 as a guided art class the Woonsocket Parks and Recreation will hold for the public at its 1117 River Street headquarters from 5:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m.

“Art offers an important channel for exploring our creative skills and capabilities. This class offers an invaluable opportunity to experiment with paint as a different means of self-expression,” said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt. “Hats off to our parks and recreation staff for empowering the public an opportunity to tap into their inner Picasso, Matisse or Renoir.”

The $10 per-class fee includes art materials and supplies, light snacks and beverages. Space is limited. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the duration of the class. Early pre-registration for each class is required and highly encouraged. Registration forms may be retrieved from a marked box located outside the parks and recreation office or by emailing Parks & Recreation Superintendent Elizabeth Kerrigan at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or calling (401) 767-9287. Beginning in the month of November, paint night will be held the first Wednesday of each month through the month of May.

“This class is ideal for children age 10 and older and adults of any and all artistic skill levels,” said Ms. Kerrigan. “At the end of each class, each participant leaves with the masterpiece they painted on canvas and we always take a group photo together.”

“To know that this class might help in tapping some unrealized artistic talent existing among us is extremely exciting. Jillian has an unbelievable knack for inspiring the artist within each Paint Night student. The City proudly offers this interesting class,” said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt.

The Biden administration says it's up to state governors to decide if the National Guard is needed to disperse anti-Israel protests on college campuses. House Speaker Mike Johnson called on President Biden to bring in the National Guard after seeing the protests at Columbia University this week.        The U.S. Supreme Court is considering arguments about presidential immunity. The case before the high court on Thursday centered around Donald Trump's claims of immunity in his federal election interference case. The justices are expected to rule in June.        Drivers can expect lots of gridlock in New York City today with President Biden in town. Biden will be in Manhattan today as he campaigns around New York. Meantime, former President Trump is teasing a possible rally at Madison Square Garden.        Harvey Weinstein's 2020 rape conviction is being overturned. The New York Court of Appeals says it tossed the conviction because of issues with testimony allowed at trial. Actress Ashley Judd, who accused Weinstein of sexual harassment, vowed, however, that the fight would continue.        Tornado sightings are being reported this morning in parts of eastern Oklahoma. Local forecasters say conditions capable of producing tornadoes were reported this morning between Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Tornado-producing weather is expected today from northeast Texas to southern Iowa.        "The Onion" has been sold. G-O Media announced on Thursday that the satirical news outlet has been purchased by a new firm called Global Tetrahedron, who got their name from The Onion. The CEO of G-O Media says the new firm has agreed to keep the entire staff intact in Chicago, where the publication has been based since 2012.
